The National Social Action Commission was established in 1963 to provide information and direction to the membership on current civil right issues. In that same year, the March on Washington brought over 200,000 people to the nation’s capitol to protest racial discrimination and support for civil rights legislation that was pending in Congress. It was during this rally that Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his infamous, “I Have a Dream” speech.
On the rally’s official program, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc’s honorary member, Daisy Bates, was the only woman allowed to speak. Also, present at the March on Washington was Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s 10th president, Dorothy Height.
It’s been 60 years since the establishment of the Social Action Commission. The voice of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continues to be a force to be reckoned with. Yearly, Deltas nationwide participate in Delta Days at the Nation’s Capital, Delta Days at the United Nations, as well as local, Delta Days at the State Capital.

Stroll to the Polls - October 26, 2024
Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter continued to meet the challenge of our National mantra, “Fortitude on the Frontline” on Saturday, October 26, 2024. We began the day by participating in Stroll to the Polls with the Greater Milwaukee Urban League and the National Pan Hellenic Council of Milwaukee. We met at Greater Mt. Zion Church and marched to Washington Park Library where we made our voices heard by Early Voting! Afterward, there was food, music, fellowship, and caricature drawing. What a wonderful way to start the day, which set the tone for our Midwest Impact Day of Service, “Your Vote, Your Voice….” Counting to Election 2024, November 5th.
The 34th Delta Days at the Nation’s Capital
“Forward with Fortitude: Elevating Our Power for a New Era of Impact” was held in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC., March 24th - March 28th. Political Awareness and Involvement Chairs, Kim Eubanks and Tanesha Jones, along with other Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter members attended to ensure that our voices were heard!
On the local level, several Deltas from the State of Wisconsin attended Delta Days at the State Capital. This year’s theme was “Making an Impact with the Power of Our Voices.” Locally, we also participate in voter registration drives, voter education through candidate forums, and our polling site at the Clinton Rose Senior Center. This year, the chapter was recognized for its commitment, 17+ years, of making certain that the votes and voices of the constituents in our polling area are heard and counted! |
